Counselling

Putting Clients First

What We Offer

Starting counselling can feel very different for each person, and each therapeutic journey is unique, but our counsellors strive to offer a safe and non-judgemental space from which to explore your experiences and perspectives.

At the Cherwell Counselling Centre all of our counsellors are fully qualified professionals, and meet the requirements needed to be registered members of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), or a similar membership body.  This means that our counsellors adhere to clear ethical guidelines, and have undergone rigorous training at a graduate level as a minimum.

Counsellors may have a specific way of working, or modality, and if so they will explain this to you in the introductory session (e.g. you may have heard of CBT, person-centred, or Gestalt to name just a few!), but the most important thing is that you feel comfortable with your counsellor, because the therapeutic rapport is one of the most important aspects of therapy.

Counselling can help you to understand current and past issues, offers psycho-education which can aid with learning coping skills, help with self-acceptance and self-understanding, which can help with improved relationships and more fully informed choices and decisions.

Please note: we are not able to offer clinical diagnoses, nor offer medical guidance – counselling is not a ‘cure-all’, and it requires a time commitment and active participation to be effective.
